Devotional: Called to Be the Keeper of the Door
Scripture Reference: "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." — Matthew 22:39
Reflection: Sometimes the most sacred callings don't arrive in dramatic visions or thunderous declarations—they show up disguised as everyday inconvenience. A stolen bag of groceries, missed deliveries, neighbors losing packages… and one humble soul who simply said, “I’ll help.”
This is a testimony of a woman in her sixties, living with blood cancer, and the daily burden of chemotherapy—a warrior whose immune system limits her outings but not her outreach. Amid delivery failures and delivered packages being stolen from in front of hers, and her neighbors doors and apartment building package theft, she didn't just complain—she quietly became the solution. She organized, protected, and watched over the packages of others, charging nothing, asking for no recognition, but ensuring her neighbors felt safe and seen. Like a shepherd watching the gate, she stood guard at the very threshold of her building—and of her calling.
At first, it felt like frustration. But now, through the lens of the Holy Spirit, it’s revealed: she was directed, not inconvenienced.
She didn't just read Matthew 22:39—she became it. Love thy neighbor… by keeping their packages safe. Love thy neighbor… by installing cameras to shield the vulnerable. Love thy neighbor… by creating structure, reliability, and dignity.
This kind of love isn't always loud. It’s quiet. It’s consistent. And it shines even brighter in buildings shadowed by distrust or theft. It’s a ministry that doesn't require a pulpit—just a doorbell camera, some sticky notes, and a heart surrendered to God’s nudges.
This is her Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for calling us in ways we may not recognize at first. Help us to see Your purpose in the mundane, Your Spirit in the small acts of care. May we never underestimate the power of love shown through service. Bless those who stand guard for others, even while they battle their own storms. Let Your voice whisper through every delivery, every knock, every quiet moment that says, "You are walking in My purpose."
Amen!
