If You Were There

Scourging, called verberatio by the Romans, was the worst kind of flogging administered by ancient courts. While the Jews administered whippings in the synagogues for certain offenses, these were mild in comparison to scourging. Scourging  was brutal enough to be fatal in many cases. A person certainly could be beaten to death by the scourge if that was what pleased them. Its purpose was not only to cause great pain, but to humiliate as well. To scourge a man was to beat him worse than one would beat a animal. It was very demeaning. It was considered such a degrading form of punishment that, according to the Porcian (248 B.C.) and Sempronian (123 B.C.) laws,( Look up both both Laws Porcian, Sempronian) Roman citizens were exempt from it. It was, therefore, the punishment appropriate only for slaves and non-Romans, those who were viewed as the lesser elements in Roman society. To make it as humiliating as possible, scourging was carried out in public. Jesus torture was extreme for He was commission to take on the penalty of the sins of all humanity. (Deuteronomy 25:1-3 King James Version (KJV) 1. If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, that the judges may judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked. 2 And it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his fault, by a certain number. 3 Forty stripes he may give him, and not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee.) This is for each man found guilty. Now imagine Jesus receiving each human penalty, for all were born in sin. This type of whip was call flagellum, or The cat of nine tails, metal and bone were tied to the ends of each strip. This kind would tear into the skin ripping into the flesh of the body that was being torture when the hand is pull back from the lash. How many lashes (strips) would that be for all humanity. If you were there, would you have seen The Master who had the foreknowledge of His torturous death, praying in agony?
His sweat dripping heavy like drops of blood imagining the cross he shall bear while in the garden of Gethsemane.

If you were there, would you be frightened, in despair, confused, and filled with much grief?
When they came after our Master in the night as if they were in search of a thief.

While his other disciples scatter about, and before the cock could crow, Peter denied him thrice.

If you were there, would you have seen how the Soldiers blindfold our master striking Him across his face?

While the Chief Priest and Captains of the temple, with the elders were setting him up for a public disgrace.

If you were there, would you have seen when Pilate had our Master scourged, wearing a crown of thorns preparing him for death?

Placing a purple robe upon Jesus, bringing Him before the people proclaiming no fault while he washed his hands, then left.

If you where there, would you have seen The scourging and death of The Lord whose blood was shed to wash our slate clean.

Suffering in pain in order to give our wretched souls a new life and a right through His Righteous to be redeem.

If you were there, would you have seen them impaled His body to the cross, nailing Him by His hands then by His heels?
They lynched Him, as they mock His torturous body with amusement catering to their thirst and hunger for thrills.

If you were there, would you have seen them pierced Him in his side, condemning him to damnation?

Unbeknownst to them that the blood, and the water pouring out of the wound represented Salvation for every nation.

If you were there, would you have seen when thy place His body in a borrowed new tomb?

It was a temporary stay, for on the third day He rose, and now we await the return of The Bridegroom.

If you were there, would you have seen how the women came to the sepulchre, but found their Master not there? 

Mary Madeline ran to Simon Peter and the others with what she could not bare
stating they have taken our Master from the sepulchre, but we know not where.

If you were there, would you have seen how Mary returns to the tomb weeping?

For she could not find her Jesus with whom she was Desperately Seeking.

If you were there, would you have seen how the disciples lost Hope when they seen their Lord crucified?
Or how they rejoiced as they seen with their own eyes,
That Our Master, Our beloved Savior Jesus The Christ has risen on the third day, and He Is Surely Alive.

After All The Suffering Is Over, And Our Tears Wipe Away, We Will Behold Him Face to Face
